A blast from the past...

I saw an ex today.
Somebody I loved very much.
We lost touch 8 years ago.
Back then, he was a wealthy PH.D student.
He's now a meth addict and lives on the street.

How am I suppose to react to this ? Part of me wants to help ; the other part wants to run as fast as I can.

I am at a lost for words...

run....stay away. You can not fix him. I know - I went through a 4 year marriage to an addict. I thought I could fix him. It took my leaving and a few really BAD nights of alcohol and drugs for him to finally realize he needed help.

You can't do it for him.

BTW - what kind of horn do you play on? Just curious. We have a variety in our house, from Bach Strads to a King Silver Flare, and a (OMG) Bundy cornet - eeeek! The hubs and I have 11 (or so) trumpets between us!

Hard decision - running away quickly is certainly the safest.

i say run. you can use my blog roll to go talk to Saur. she's been in your exact same situation, execpt her addict boyfriend was living with her, hiding his addiction and robbing her blind to support his habit. you might get some real good advice from her.

p.s. my exhubby is a professional trumpet player!

You cannot help someone that does not want to be helped. Of course, in the grip of addiction his actions often cease to be voluntary in any meaningful way, he might not even know or admit to needing help. Yes, he does need that help - and that help depends on the individual and the substance used. However, the question is what should YOU do?

I don't have an answer or even a suggestion.

However, I know that if I once loved somebody very much I would want to help. Yet, I still do not know what help I could offer....but I might try to find out.
